The Grand See

Constitution of the Grand Lodge of South Carolina:

Chapter I, Article15

There shall be an annual communication of the Grand Lodge, commencing at eleven A.M. on the fourth Thursday in April, and to be holden at such a place as the Grand Lodge shall from year to year determine; but the City of Charleston shall continue to be deemed and held as the Grand East of the Jurisdiction, and all Masonic documents of an official character to be dated therefrom.

Because of the central location, the Grand Lodge was relocated from Charleston to Columbia. But Charleston remains the Grand See or Grand East of the Jurisdiction and all Charters, Warrants, and documents reflect this. While this may seem a bit "odd", it is typical of many unique aspects of Masonry in South Carolina.
